Imagine an event filled with people who have saved lives - each person called to the stage or streamed live, via online video call, has done something amazing to save the life of someone, perhaps even someone they didn't know.
The reality
Each year almost 1 million people take their own lives somewhere in the world. In 2019, 6591 men and women in England died by suicide - 75% of these were men. In fact, suicide is the biggest killer of men aged under 45 and the highest suicide rate is men aged 45-49.
#HopeForLife(UK) was launched as a project, by The Jordan Legacy , on January 21st 2021 (see a recording of the launch event on this website page) to encourage people from local communities and businesses to undertake activities or initiatives that will have a positive impact on those struggling with their mental wellbeing or who may be contemplating suicide.
This conference will showcase all of the initiatives which have taken place, under the banner of The Jordan Legacy, during 2021, demonstrating the impact each one has had in helping prevent suicides.
This event is about hope
This is ultimately an event with the emphasis on 'Hope'. We will hear powerful stories from survivors of suicide attempts and how they value life now more than ever. Those who have lost loved ones to suicide will talk of they now live around their grief and how they've been able to continue living, despite their life being completely shattered in pieces. These stories will make you think, they'll make you cry and at times, they'll even make you laugh, as you discover how the power of humour can help us cope with even the most difficult of times.
You will leave this conference feeling inspired and with hope in your heart, knowing that this world is not a bad place and that there are some incredible people, doing some amazing things, under the most challenging of circumstances. You will also go away from this event understanding how you can make a difference to someone you know or even a complete stranger, who may be struggling with their mental health or considering ending their own life.
