OUR POLICIES
Mental Health Work Policy
At The Growth House, we believe that mental health is just as important as physical health. We want to work with people in a healthy, creative environment so that we can make our best work. Mental health issues can happen to anyone, it is nothing to be ashamed of and we encourage those we work with to be open about their health as much as they are comfortable. Whether it is a pre-existing condition or a bad mental health day, all disclosures are treated with the strictest confidence and only shared with express permission of the individual/s.
When starting new working relationships, we go through our company manifesto and encourage new collaborators to share how they work best so that we are on equal footing.
At least one person in every rehearsal room is Mental Health First Aid trained.
Prior to rehearsals/working days, the team will carry out a mental health risk assessment which is available to all collaborators at request.
We budget for access and wellbeing at the start of a project.
We believe that taking breaks is important for a healthy process, and these are time marked at the start of a working day. However, extra breaks can be taken if the company deems them necessary. If you need a break, take a break.
We begin every working day with a check-in and end with a check-out.
We are flexible with artists, freelancers and our core team about doctors/healthcare appointments and childcare.
We send out contracts as early as possible, with payment terms laid out clearly.
At any point, a collaborator can request an individual supporter who is a member of the core team to meet with privately and discuss any particular issues or struggles they are having. This supporter can then feedback on their behalf to the rest of the core team or collaborators if needs be.
We will ensure we have scheduled debriefs and evaluations after projects to make certain you feel you have been listened to and understood. These are also available upon request.
We will have a list of resources, phone numbers and organisations in the rehearsal room and performance spaces for collaborators to reach out to, should they feel they want to.
At the start of a new working relationship, collaborators will be directed to read our company policies and there is a line in the contract whereby collaborators must indicate they have read, understood and will abide by these policies.
