Shouting out the Neighbours! #2

Once a month we are going to shout out the work by our friends and neighbours: from music and photography, to podcasts and poems. This is what our friends and creatives have been up to in September 2020.

‘The Birds and the Bees’ - Holly May Austin

Artform: Children’s Story
Actor and all around firecracker, Holly May Austin has written and recorded a story for young children. The Birds and the Bees follows a young person trying to figure out what is meant by the popular expression. It’s a heartwarming story, narrated from the child’s perspective and is perfect for younger children. In addition to this Holly has spent her lockdown creating comedy videos and collaborations. She’s a go-getter, self starter and a champion of creavity. Anyone out there an animator or illustrator? Why not get in touch with Holly.

Terror - Berrar Darker

Artform: Music. Music Video. Album Artwork.
Spoken word poet, musician and friend of the company, Berrar Darker has released his new track, Terror, with a new music video and album artwork by Harry G Ward. He worked with us during the development of our online storytelling show Tales at Twilight where he performed an eerie spoken word poem based on a real persons story of the supernatural. Berrar is a phenomenal creative mind with a brilliant sense of wordplay and rhythm so we can’t wait to share more his work in the future.

F**ked Up Bedtime Stories (for Adults)

Artform: Podcast. Storytelling.
Directed by Jennifer Bakst as part of an English Touring Theatre audio-project, F**ked Up Bedtime Stories (for Adults) features 7 provocative tales tackling the strangeness of our current time. Using the familiar form of the bedtime story, this podcast series lures you into a world of dark and surreal imaginings to create engaging stories to listen too before bed…though probably best to not listen alone. The podcast form means you can listen on loudspeakers or through ear/headphones for a fully immersive storytelling experience.

Griot City Records - Ephemera

Artform: Music. Spoken Word.
Griot City Records is a new venture by Manchester based poet Reece Williams that champions the voice of the underdog to create a space where spoken word and poetry converse. Last month saw the launch of Ephemera, a Keisha Thompson AKA SheBeKeke and Werkha project. Ephemera is an attempt to capture those fleeting moments that float away then form the female experience. Inspired by a collection of her poems, SheBeKeke has collaborated with producer, Tom Leah and riveting cellist and vocalist, Abel Selaocoe, to explore her shifting femininity.

DON’T FORGET!

Tickets are on sale now for Tales at Twilight - our first free online event which sees artists take real stories of the supernatural and unexplained, and transform them into new creative works including poems, videos and songs. At the end of the night, anyone is welcome to share a story of when they last experienced something they couldn’t explain…
